Amy Linda Nielsen

If you haven't met her yet, be warned, little Amy is one cute baby!
And be warned, her mommy doesn't look like she's only a couple of days postpartum!
Neither does her daddy. : )

And you should further know that she got her daddy's long toes. (Anyone know where to get baby flip flops?)
Amy's stats:
Birthweight: 7 pounds 9 ounces
Length: 19 inches
Hair color: dark brown
Hair quantity: lots
"Siblings": Speed
Favorite food: milk (well, colostrum)
Sleeping habits: good so far
Favorite activity: to hike to the Y (or Stewart Falls) in Krista's tummy

Congrats, Krista and Bryce. Click here for a few more pictures of Amy from Kim's blog.

(And don't be fooled (by the final picture) into thinking that Sage and Eliza don't like their new cousin. Eliza just didn't want to stop watching "The Great Mouse Detective" with Bryce, and Sage had just gotten her toe smashed under the rocking chair by me. Oops.)

Big news

I've got two breaking news reports, both vying for your vote as the most unexpected Wilson event.

First, Baby Girl Nielson (not Lily) BEAT Baby Girl Williams #3 in the great due-date contest, and arrived today! [Baby Girl Williams is unavailable for comment as of yet.] Congrats to Krista (in spite of a long labor and a very welcome epidural), Bryce, and Big Brother Speed. [Pictures forthcoming.]

Second, Richard got a haircut!!! The hairstylist took off 3 1/2 to 4 inches, bless her heart. We're also grateful that she didn't follow his instructions EXACTLY, since he requested 1/4 inch long hair. We can all stop calling him Moppy now, and pitch in our pennies to buy him a beanie to keep his poor exposed head warm with the cooling weather up there at USU.

Birthright

This is a blog posted by Bryce Kevin Nielsen
As this is my first blog post ever, I will try to keep my remarks concise and pertinent to the issues at hand. It has been rumored by some that the Nielsens are undecided as to the name of their firstborn child. This is not so. We hereby declare that the first name of our little girl will be Lily. Any parties who wish to challenge this declaration may present their complaints to the complaint desk. Or they should just have their baby first. The end of my first blog. Special thanks to Suzy for letting me use her log in.

Baby news from the Tittelfitzes

Congratulations to Becca and Jordan on their 20-week ultrasound!

(As a side note, does anyone else think it is not fair to go in for your ultrasound and not only find out the gender, but that you're also two weeks farther ahead than you thought? And all that after your tummy has grown only 1 millimeter larger during the last 4 months?)

So, in honor of the ultrasound, I've posted a poll to the right. Vote for girl, boy, or twins. And whoever wins will probably get ice cream from Kim. No, that's not right. A steak dinner from Suzy? Nope. Let's just say it will be an undisclosed tasty treat from Becca's kitchen. (Watch out for hidden oyster crackers.)

Happy guessing.

And here's the answer. I hope your internet filter is not too strong, because you may see pictures of a scantily clad fetus on Becca's blog. (Okay, the kid's buck naked.)

And Eliza, they're not naming him George. And Sage, they're not naming him Tikki Tikki Tembo Tittelfitz," but thanks for your suggestions.

An NP in the family

A big hooray to Krista for passing the NP exams. She is now officially a Nurse Practicioner!

Let's all support her and give her experience by letting her diagnose all our ailments, beginning with our foot diseases. If she does a really good job, we might even let her prick our veins (because we know she's already been scoping them out).

Seriously, great job, Krista. Your medical knowledge and skills have blessed us all in the past few years. I, for one, won't soon forget your words of wisdom (and kindness in answering the phone after midnight) when I called to know what to do with Sage's bout of nighttime constipation. And Eliza's earache. And Mark's love of cats. And that lump in my neck that I thought was my twin. Thanks for always being willing to come over and give your best diagnosis, or look up an illness or dosage. You'll be great!

We miss the Woodburys

For the record, we miss Adam too. It seems we also missed him whenever we had the camera out.

Ruby red meat

Beware. This post contains pictures that may not be appropriate for the faint of heart. I mean, the faint of stomach (including, but not limited to, nauseous pregnant women).

Becca and Jordan and Mark and the girls and I took Rich out to redeem his birthday gift certificate to Ruby River Steakhouse last week.

Several Wilson siblings chipped in to give Rich a hefty gift card, back in May, hoping he'd take a date to redeem it. But after hearing about his last steak meal on a date, we realized he wasn't going to make any progress in wooing women if they got a peek of how he likes his meat. How does he like his meat? As my dad would say, still quivering.

While Rich was feasting on his raw meat, Sage enjoyed the appetizer bread that came with a knife stuck in it.

Becca and Jordan entertained Eliza, and taught her how to dip fries. (Then Jordan walked her all around the restaurant later when she decided that sitting still in a restaurant booth is for babies and adults, but not independent two year olds.)

And here is Eliza chugging our $3.50 milkshake. This is what you call a waste of money. (Put a pile of whipped cream like that on a rock, and she'd go for it with equal enthusiasm.)

Happy birthday Rich. We should do it again...when our stomachs finally settle down.

Lots of rain and a leaky ark

With Mom and Dad off living the international life, we knew something was bound to happen. And when I say happen, I mean break. It was really only a matter of time.

It only took 2 weeks, and the first big rain this summer gave Krista and Bryce and the poor rain gutters a run for their money and umbrellas. This picture shows the rain pouring down into the crack between the addition and the old house. Imagine water everywhere two stories below.

We owe Danielle for spotting the flooding at 10:30pm on Sunday night, and Bryce and Adam who worked past midnight rigging up tarps to divert the water. And many thanks heavenward that the water that leaked down the chandelier above the stairs all night didn't electrocute anyone. And, of course, thanks for the moisture. I guess we prayed ourselves into this one.

(And thanks to Jordan for fixing all the rentals' problems. And thanks to me for living in Salt Lake and writing blogs about the work everyone else is doing to maintain Mom and Dad's assets while they take a little sabbatical and while Heather studies finer art forms!)
