Tonight for Family Home Evening Dad had each of us think about and write down a few one-liner life lessons or "maxims."  (a maxim is a short, pithy statement expressing a general truth or rule of conduct.)

Here are some of our best ones.  What do you think?

• Remember Jesus more often. -Mom
• Find God in each day. -Dad
• People are more important than projects or possessions. -Mom
• See the good in everyone everywhere, and share that with them. -Mom
• Find joy in the journey. (President Monson quote) -Grandmother
• There are always good and bad sides to every problem; but which we decide to focus on is up to us. -Rich
• Be kind. -Grandmother
• Love those around you without conditions. -Dad
• The less you think of yourself, the happier you'll be. -Corey 
• Those who complain the loudest quite often have the least to really complain about. -Rich
• Look for ways to lift others. -Dad
• Service makes hard times not so hard. -Suz 
• Forgive quickly. -Grandmother
• Always remember to be loyal to God and strive to keep His laws and enjoy His blessings. -Grandmother
• Cultivate a grateful heart. -Grandmother
• Sometimes all the Lord requires of you is to show up. -Corey
• No one on this earth is as good as you are at being you. -Corey
• Enjoy work and hobbies. -Dad
• If you think something is beyond debate, you need to study it more carefully. -Rich
• One layer of clothes is never enough to protect against the winter wind. -Rich
• A good night's sleep cures many ills. -Suz
• Even when we are lost, God knows exactly where we are. -Suz

Avoid:

• Avoid negativism, criticism, and self-pitying thoughts that don't enable or lift. -Mom
• Avoid discouraging thoughts. -Dad
• Avoid missing naptime. -Mom
• Avoid holding grudges. -Grandmother
• Avoid getting even. -Dad
• Avoid envy. -Dad
• Avoid selfishness. -Grandmother 
• Don't whine about your problems if you're not ready to try and find solutions for them. -Rich
• Avoid situations or persons who would lead me to do evil or hurt my family. -Grandmother
• Avoid avoidance. -Corey
• Avoid isolation. -Corey 
• Avoid feeling self-conscious. It gets you nowhere. -Suz
• Don't speed near Lehi. -Rich
• Don't assume you know the answer to a problem before you study the other side's arguments. -Rich
• Don't let others tell you what your interests are. -Charlie
