Japanese Night at the Culinary School

Rich, Mom, Christian and I met at UVU's Culinary School Restaurant for Japanese Night this past week.  Our reservations fell through for French night, so we took the last reservation slot available (Japanese night) and crossed our fingers that the it wouldn't be too fishy an occasion.   No such luck.

Rich with his sushi appetizer and miso, a fishy broth with tofu chunks and green onions.
Dad would have loved it. (ha ha)

Our "salads": seaweed (Rich's), and cucumber vinegar (Janel's)

Mom's entree, featuring super long noodles
(and everything but the kitchen sink, including beef, potatoes, carrots, tofu, two kinds of mushrooms)

My entree (super yummy noodles and beef in a super fishy (gross) broth)

Rich enjoying a cute little mushroom--one of a few kinds we tasted.
Not pictured: Mom's warm egg-and-mushroom custard

Christian getting a little sushi action.  He's obviously impressed, don't you think?

Dessert: tofu cheesecake.  It was actually pretty delicious.  Not quite as yummy as Richard's chocolate tart, but that disappeared before we had a chance to photograph it.

Wow! That looks like a meal to remember! It's fun to try totally different stuff sometimes. Maybe we can try to recreate the tofu cheesecake?

Maybe let's pass on trying to recreate any of that stuff. I'll stick with something Rich whips up on his own. No fish allowed.

That WAS a fun, "interesting" experience! Maybe we should make it an annual event . . . but next time I'd like to try French!

My favorite part is that JJ had to explain in a double parenthesis that fishy broth=gross broth. Looks like you are all quite cultured in fish and mushrooms. Fun times!

From the pix, looks like you walked right out of a Chinese restaurant! The little mushrooms, the long noodles, the beef/noodle/tofu soup--only thing that is different is in China, there was a little less fish :)
Sounds like quite the authentic dinner!
